The launch of the AUDI sub-brand might be the talk of the town at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, but the regular Audi also has a new model in store. The automaker has introduced the China-exclusive A5L with a stretched wheelbase and a more pronounced boot.

Although the new Audi A5 five-door liftback is being cheekily marketed as a “sedan” in many parts of the world, there’s now a true sedan in A5 range, but it’s unlikely to be sold outside of China.

Audi is making a big change to its branding for the Chinese market with a new logo that lacks the automaker’s famous four-ring emblem. Today in Shanghai, the company showed off the new “AUDI” logo — yes, it’s just Audi in all caps — on the front of a new E concept electric Sportback that notably lacks its broadly used “E-Tron” branding.

There is a proper sedan version of the new A5 coming, though only for China, where it will be sold as the A5L. The debut took place on Friday at the 2024 Guangzhou auto show.

Unlike the global A5, the long-wheelbase version for China is a true sedan. Although the new Audi A5 is officially labeled as a sedan, it technically isn’t one. It has a more practical tailgate and comes to replace both the old A4 Sedan and the A5 Sportback.
