James Gunn is saying Superman is an immigrant story. The filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios recently opened up to The Sunday Times about the themes behind his new superhero blockbuster, especially given the current political climate in the United States and President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies.

James Gunn is shutting down the assumption that “ Superman ” has to be a box office blockbuster. The writer/director, who is also the co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, told GQ that the franchise tentpole film does not carry as much pressure at the studio as critics believe.
