But until Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia saved Day’s gold pants seat during Saturday’s 27-9 win over Michigan, nobody used a tool that predates the rivalry: A No. 2 pencil.

Ohio State’s defense held Michigan without a touchdown, although the Wolverines got out to 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Michigan’s freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood was ineffective as he went 8-for-18 passing with 63 yards and an interception which sealed the game for the Buckeyes.

Michigan players planted a Michigan flag at midfield after an upset win over Ohio State last season, before a brawl broke out between both teams. Police were then called over to break up the fights, and pepper spray was even used. Both schools were fined $100,000 for their roles in the altercation.
