The tenuous ceasefire in Gaza is holding after the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners and detainees, but uncertainties remain.

Protests swept campuses after the war began. But tough discipline, pushed by Republicans, curbed a student movement that was one of the largest since the Vietnam War.

In all, Israel’s campaign has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians and wounded nearly 170,000, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. More than 40,000 of those wounded have life-altering injuries, according to the World Health Organization.

Hamas freed the 20 hostages and Israel released some 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of a cease-fire. President Trump, in Israel, proclaimed an “end” to the war, but Israel and Hamas have not agreed on next steps in Gaza.

U.S. President Donald Trump embarked on a whirlwind trip to the Middle East on Monday to cement the end of the war between Israel and Hamas, and to reaffirm his ambitions to usher in peace between the two.

Preparations were also underway Sunday for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
