Newsmax has declined to sign the Pentagon’s revised media credentialing agreement, becoming the first major outlet to publicly reject the Defense Department’s new restrictions on press access, CBS News’ Jim LaPorta reports.

Several news organizations, including The New York Times, NPR and Newsmax, are refusing to sign a new set of restrictions on news gathering inside the Pentagon.

Most of the nation’s leading news organizations have said they will not sign a policy severely restricting journalists’ access to the Pentagon ahead of a Tuesday deadline set by the Trump administration.

Media outlets ranging from The Atlantic to CNN to Newsmax have so far said that they do not plan for their correspondents to sign a new Pentagon press policy, arguing that it attempts to threaten access to the complex unless reporters agree to restrictions on how they have normally done their jobs.

Newsmax has no plans to sign the letter,’ the network stated on Monday. ‘We believe the requirements are unnecessary and onerous and hope that the Pentagon with review the matter further’

The Pentagon is telling beat reporters to sign restrictive new rules by Tuesday or surrender their press passes by Wednesday. Many news organizations are rejecting the ultimatum and saying they will not sign.

Many media outlets - including the entire TV press pool - are refusing to sign Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s policy restricting the press' Pentagon access, escalating tensions over press freedom and government transparency.
