Recent reporting suggests LSU may have the edge. Fox's Bruce Feldman revealed Saturday morning on Big Noon Kickoff that LSU is "very confident" Kiffin will take the job in Baton Rouge. This comes hours after Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that Kiffin is already assembling a coaching staff at LSU.
In 2024, when it seemed imminent Napier would be fired, Kiffin appeared to be Florida's top candidate if the Gators made a coaching change. Florida ultimately decided to keep Napier for the 2025 season, and he was fired after a 3-4 start.
"Florida has shifted focus from Lane Kiffin in the school’s coaching search, as the school has sensed through irregular communication that he’s interested in other options. Florida has interviewed roughly a dozen candidates and is optimistic about the process," ESPN's Pete Thamel reported.
Heading into potentially his final game with Mississippi, Lane Kiffin is reportedly not going to take the vacant head-coaching position at Florida.
A person familiar with the search says Florida is moving on from Lane Kiffin and targeting Tulane’s Jon Sumrall as its next head coach
Florida has been a betting favorite to land Kiffin ever since the job came open, but with serious money being offered by its competitors, the program will have to have a contingency plan, just in case.
