In Kerr County, home to youth camps in the Texas Hill Country, searchers have found the bodies of 68 people, including 28 children, Sheriff Larry Leitha said Sunday afternoon. Fatalities in nearby counties brought the total number of deaths to 79 as of Sunday evening.

Dozens of people have died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to "catastrophic" flooding, the sheriff said.

Larry Leitha, the Kerr County Sheriff in Texas Hill Country, the epicenter of the catastrophic flooding in Texas, said on Sunday (July 6) that the death toll in Kerr County had reached 59, including the 21 children. Dalton Rice, Kerrville City Manager, said "our biggest focus is to make sure that we get families reunited with their loved ones."
