According to early exit polls, Catholic voters supported Trump over Harris by a nearly 20-point margin. In 2020, Catholics backed Biden, who would become America’s second Catholic president, by a five-point margin. In both years, more than 1 in 5 voters were Catholic.

Democrat Kamala Harris faced Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday in the U.S. presidential election, after the two candidates vied for support by staking positions on issues including abortion, the economy and foreign policy.

Even with a poll showing the surprise lead by Harris in Iowa, national polls still suggest that the race remains tight between the two candidates.
