Astronomers have confirmed the third interstellar object on record is dashing through our solar system. Dubbed 3I/ATLAS, it appears to be a comet and is thought to have flown in from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius,

The Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) is a small satellite already orbiting Earth. IBEX has special instruments gathering data to create the first map of the boundary of interstellar space. NASA is preparing to launch the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) in 2025.

The object — thought to be a comet — is only the third-ever confirmed interstellar visitor to pass through our cosmic neighborhood. Dubbed 3I/ATLAS, the comet poses no danger to Earth and will remain roughly 150 million miles away as it speeds by, according to NASA.
