In 1539, 133 witches were burned in Quedlinburg, and since then, tales of witchcraft have haunted the area. Every year on Walpurgis Night, legend has it that witches meet in the Harz Mountains for a bonfire to cast spells. We hiked along the Harzer Hexen Stieg, a 100-kilometer trail through the remote, spooky parts of the Harz Mountains, to see if we could find any traces of these dark legends.
