At least three state lawmakers are working on efforts to preserve the history of the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol insurrection. In New York, Democratic Assemblyman Chuck Lavine has proposed legislation to require all public school children to receive instruction about the insurrection. Lawmakers in Nevada and Maine are pushing similar measures. This comes as House leaders in Washington, D.C. have declined to implement a federal law passed in 2023 requiring the hanging of a plaque listing the names
